Lead Generation Overview

Your agent can collect contact details from visitors during a conversation, such as their name and email, so your team can follow up. You set this up in your agent’s prompt: tell it when to ask, and what to ask for.

Every lead capture prompt has two parts:

  • A trigger: the moment the agent should start, such as when someone asks for a quote or mentions your newsletter
  • The details to collect: what the agent should ask for, such as a name and email

The simplest version is a single sentence:

If the user asks for a quote, collect their name and email.

From there, you can shape how the agent asks, what it offers in return, and whether it qualifies the lead first.

There are four common approaches. Each one has its own guide with a full prompt you can copy.

Approach When the agent asks Best for
Passive lead capture When the user asks to subscribe or get updates Newsletter signups and low-friction capture
Active lead capture When the user shows interest in your product Turning warm conversations into leads with an incentive
Pre-qualification flow Only after the user passes your qualifying questions Services that only suit certain customers
Lead-first qualification flow First, then asks every qualifying question Capturing every lead, and letting your team qualify them later

If you’re not sure where to start, start with passive lead capture. It only asks when the user has already shown they want to hear from you.

Chatica sends the lead data to your email or webhook when the conversation ends, or after the user hasn’t replied for an hour.

To receive lead data as soon as the agent has collected it, add this to your prompt, after your lead capture instructions:

## Data Collection Instructions:
After you have collected all of the data from the user: {name, email},
call the send_notification_about_lead_collection() function.

Replace {name, email} with every detail you want to collect, such as {name, email, phone number}. The agent sends the data once it has all of them.
